18ct Gold or Silver Scarab Ring Egyptian Revival Sun God Ring

Price range: £210.00 through £3,220.00

This 18ct yellow gold or Sterling silver scarab ring is in the Egyptian revival style, having been inspired by the treasures of Tutankhamun’s tomb.

A highly decorative weighty gold ring with a standout vibe.
Wear it to a gala or to the cinema, you can dress this piece up or down.

I wanted this piece to have a ‘just excavated’ feel without being dull gold, so I used a high shine only on the wings of the little beetle. I also wanted to make sure the piece retained the naivety of the carved scarabs found in Ancient Egypt. I’ve been collecting tiny scarabs since I was VERY small.

Price range: £210.00 through £3,220.00

Description

To the ancient Egyptians, scarabs were the bringers of the new day, celebrated for rolling the new sun into the dawn sky. Not only does he represent the coming of the new day, he also carries a secret message that only the wearer can see.
Gold itself was also highly treasured, representing godliness, wealth and prestige.
Lastly, lapis lazuli was also highly prized. It was considered a royal stone, believed to contain the souls of the gods. Even the garments of priests and royalty were dyed with lapis to indicate their status. They also believed lapis lazuli would lead the soul into immortality and open the heart to love.

BRAND HISTORY AND ETHICS

The name Seraga comes from the name of my father, Serag, a Coptic Egyptian. He led me through the early part of the path that is my life, encouraging my talents to flourish and so it felt appropriate to name my company after him and the ancestry that has inspired me. In ancient Egypt, jewellery was of huge importance, as was gold and other riches. In particular, I love the ancient technique of granulation, where tiny balls of precious metal are added to the metal surface for decoration. Where possible, I try to combine the luxury of these ancient jewels with the wonder of the natural world, such as ancient English woodland and the beauty of the British seaside.

I believe in the time honoured tradition of my art, that is to make each item with love and the great care it merits. Every piece of jewellery is handmade in my small workshop by the coast in Lyme Regis, Dorset. No piece is exactly the same.

I put a lot of love into each piece I make and I hope you love your piece as much as I enjoyed making it.

With love from Lyme Regis.
