Description

If you're looking for a pair of yellow gold sapphire studs that are spectacularly unique to you, stop right there. These one-of-a-kind studs will never be made again. When they are yours, they will be totally unique to you. These British designed, British made 18ct yellow gold sapphire studs will make you feel like an Egyptian goddess. The Ancient Egyptians believed that gold is a heavenly metal and the goddess Hathor, mother of Ra, was called 'the golden one'. So, think of yourself as one of Egypt's golden goddesses wearing these sun like disc shaped golden earrings. The classic shape means you can wear these with any outfit but the unusual design, finish and sparkling Australian teal sapphires mean they will still be a talking point, whether the venue be your local pub or the Savoy.

I selected Australian sapphires on a recent trip to Austrlia and my reasoning is simple. Austrlian sapphires are some of the best in the world and purchasing materials in the country they were found (fossicking for sapphires) means that I can guarantee the source is reputable and free of forced labour with high standard working conditions.

These 18ct gold sapphire studs represent something of a coming of age, in a way. I put everything I have into this new collection. I’ll tell you that the journey developing this collection has been an emotional rollercoaster for many reasons.

The collection came into being at Melbourne airport on my way to Tasmania where I saw an article in National Geographic detailing Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb and its treasures. Of course, being Egyptian, I HAD to buy this magazine, and a sketchbook, and pens, on the spot. As I turned each page, patterns literally flew out of the magazine and into my notebook. The adrenaline was real. So, the new collection was born. It was actually a whirlwind my youngest sister and I sat on our flight discussing the different patterns and artefacts in the magazine.

When I got back after the Tassie trip, I showed my dad, who despite spending his life as an Obstetrician is an extremely creative person. Together we discussed the merits of various stones I’d seen in Australia, which is known for its incredible sapphires.

So, this collection embodies family love, shared ancestry, all that glitters AND a wild trip in to the Tassie outback.

These pieces are a part of my family, my loves.

BRAND HISTORY AND ETHICS
The name Seraga comes from the name of my father, Serag, a Coptic Egyptian. He led me through the early part of the path that is my life, encouraging my talents to flourish and so it felt appropriate to name my company after him and the ancestry that has inspired me. In ancient Egypt, jewellery was of huge importance, as was gold and other riches. In particular, I love the ancient technique of granulation, where tiny balls of precious metal are added to the metal surface for decoration. Where possible, I try to combine the luxury of these ancient jewels with the wonder of the natural world, such as ancient English woodland and the beauty of the British seaside.

I believe in the time honoured tradition of my art, that is to make each item with love and the great care it merits. Every piece of jewellery is handmade in my small workshop by the coast in Lyme Regis, Dorset. No piece is exactly the same.

I put a lot of love into each piece I make and I hope you love your piece as much as I enjoyed making it.

With love from Lyme Regis.
